Plot:
This adaptation of the story is set in the year 1850.
A man named Rodrigo (Enrique Rocha) had plans of marrying Maria del Rosario (Laura Flores). However, Maria del Rosario had a secret plan of her own. She had planned on getting married to Juan de Dios (a fisherman). She revealed her secret to her sister, Leonarda (Helena Rojo). Leonarda, who was in love with Rodrigo, immediately went to him with the news. A furious Rodrigo bribed the town’s Mexican soldiers to arrest Juan de Dios on false charges.
During the middle of their wedding ceremony, the soldiers stormed down the aisle to arrest Juan de Dios before their vows could be completed. Maria del Rosario had pleaded for help from Rodrigo, but he vehemently refused. In his anger, Rodrigo had let slip the fact that he knew the exact charges that Juan de Dios was being arrested for and Maria del Rosario realized that the false charges were spawned by Rodrigo himself.
Betrayed by her sister and the man that she trusted like a brother, Maria del Rosario allowed herself to be taken away to an estate by the sea. She waited until her sister left the estate before sneaking out to see Juan de Dios in jail (with the aid of another bribe) in order to let him know that she was pregnant. Juan de Dios felt fortified with the news and promised that he would come for her and their child so that they could run away together.
Months later, Juan de Dios finally managed to escape prison and struggled through a storm to the estate by the sea. He was well on his way of having Maria del Rosario escape with him when the storm became worse. They agreed to wait out only until the storm passed, but no sooner had they laid down on the bed to wait, they fell asleep. By the time they had awoken, it was far too late. The soldiers were nearing the house on horseback and Rodrigo appeared at the doorway to thwart their escape attempt with a gun at hand.
Juan de Dios, with no other alternative, left through the window and onto the horse that had been prepared for their escape. He took off on horseback, the soldiers chasing after him and shooting at him. A wounded Juan de Dios slowed the horse down to a stop near a cliff’s edge and, with no other alternative, dived into the water below. The soldiers looked on, but saw no sign of the fisherman coming up for air and deemed him to be dead.
Leonarda ruthlessly told her sister that Juan de Dios was more than likely dead, causing the pregnant woman to fall to hysterics. Amidst her unstable state, her water broke and the doctor was rushed in right away to deliver the baby. Promptly after giving birth, Maria del Rosario passed out. While her sister was unconscious, Leonarda had her nephew sent away by a drunken employee. Rodrigo had given her orders to kill the baby, but she couldn’t bring herself to kill anyone of her own blood. She had no qualms whatsoever about sending the baby as an orphan to a convent.
However, the employee in charge of the baby being delivered to the doorstep of the convent ended up panicking at the sounds of soldiers (that were still looking for Juan de Dios). He left the baby along with a note that read ‘please baptize me with the name Juan de Dios’ on the side of the road. A young boy walking down the path with a rabbit in tow ended up hearing the baby’s wailing. He let go of the rabbit that was undoubtedly his family’s dinner and opted to save the baby instead.
Maria del Rosario’s son was in relatively safe hands with a poor family. However, Leonarda told her sister that her son was dead. Under such horrible news, Maria del Rosario became even more unstable. Leonarda realized that, while her sister lived, Rodrigo would never even look her way. She ended up with a plan to pass her sister off as dead. She ordered an accomplice to fill up a casket with books to make it feel as if the weight of a dead person was in it, all the while secretly sealing off her sister and putting a man in charge of making sure that she didn’t escape.
While Leonarda was seeing to the last tasks of her plan, Rodrigo decided to deal with his grief over Maria del Rosario’s “death” his own way…he took off to another country without even telling Leonarda. Feeling very much betrayed and upset, Leonarda decided to marry Rodrigo’s best friend in the hopes of at least causing the man some jealousy. She bore him a son that they named Renato.
When Rodrigo finally returns, he has a new wife named Constanza (Laisha Wilkins) in tow who is pregnant. Leonarda stays close to her new rival for Rodrigo’s love and ends up slowly poisoning her. Constanza gives birth to twin girls named Regina and Aime. However, due to her weakened state, Constanza ends up dying. Leonarda takes on the responsibility of raising the girls, but not before she forces Rodrigo to make a vow of never marrying anyone else for the twins’ sake.
The year is 1862, and Juan del Dios is 12 years old and has now had an experience at fishing. Renato is 7 years old. Aimee and Regina are 3 years old (as mentioned earlier). In this section, Juan de Dios discovers that he has a father. His father, Juan de Dios kidnaps him and tells him that he is his father and tells Juan de Dios his story. That’s how he discovers the truth, yet still believe Mario del Rosario is dead. Juan de Dios goes on and on telling Juan de Dios* the truth and the stories about his wife (or as Juan de Dios mother). Rodrigo moves to Europe.
Years later in the year 1867, Juan de Dios is now a teenager. Renato is now 12 years old. Aimee and Regina are both 8 years old and have their differences. Such as Regina being more of the girly and romance type, while Aimee being more of the dared full and troublemaker type. The convoluted plots soon arise as Juan de Dios* father is dying. Juan de Dios tells Juan de Dios* to Avenge him by punishing the Montes de Oca family. Juan de Dios* immediately promises his father that and then his father dies. Juan del Dios fearsomely changes his name to Juan Del Diablo and changes. Leonarda’s husband asks Juan del Diablo to come to the Montes de Oca residents, which Juan del Diablo refuses to go to, but is then convinced for a short period of time. Leonarda doesn’t appreciate Juan, as called at the residents to prevent violence. Renato and Juan del Diablo become friends. Aimee tricks Regina into going to the dark chamber, yet don’t realize that Maria del Rosario is locked in one of the 17 portal. So as Aimee and Regina got closer they see a ghost and they quickly run screaming. Leonarda grounded the twins and were not allowed to leave their room. Finally, after a while Leonarda rejected her husband, telling him that she never loved him, and ran out of the house. He got on his horse and fell off and was seriously injured. The following morning, the troops found him and brought him to the oca residents, which after a while was cured. Juan del Diablo got rejected by Leonarda and was kicked out of the house. Renato and Juan del Diablo planned to get out of the house and to go. But unfortunately, Renato tripped and was caught. Leonarda was worried sick and found him. The tables were flipped as Juan del Diablo went on a ship with 2 stream wheels on each side. He went with a rich person and a woman (that had adopted him), and sailed off.
Several years later in the year 1880, and they were all grown up, Juan de Dios was 30 , Renato is 27. Aimee and Regina are both 25 years old. The world is more industrialized, as the telegraph appeared and steered ships. Throughout the story the find passion, love and romance, as well as violence and drama.
Theme Song:
Chayanne : Me Enamore de Ti
Lyrics:
Si no estás conmigo…. me quedo vacio ….

!!!ME ALEGRO,BRAVO ARACELYS!!!
